Description

Hi! I'm Tangerine.

My foster mom estimates I am around one year old, and I'm a happy energetic girl! I am fully potty trained and have had zero accidents in the house. I was found by firefighters as a stray in Chicago, and I was removed from the CACC shelter by Mit Liebe! I've been in a foster home since August 10th, 2024. My foster mom has been working with me on some scent training in hopes that I can find a handler or K-9 unit to give me a job, but even if that doesn't work out I'm having a lot of fun hanging out, learning, and using my nose! I'm a Belgian Malinois x German Shepherd x Dutch Shepherd mix so I have a lot of energy. With that being the case, mom has not tested me with cats and we are assuming small animals would be a no go. I was very interested in chickens when I met them, and probably could be trained to stay away from them (and similar farm animals) but that will have to be at your discretion.

If you're interested in adopting me, here's some things I'll need so I can flourish:

An active family with breed specific knowledge. I come from working dog lines and need to get my energy out. One walk a day isn't enough for me, and since I love spending time with humans I'd love to go anywhere with you! My brain needs to be stimulated just as much as my 4 legs do, too. It also comes with a little separation anxiety, once mom left me in her car to talk with her friend just outside in the parking lot and I chewed through her seatbelt and on her headrest because I couldn't wait for her to get back!

Obedience training. My foster mom was asked not to do obedience so that I maintain my natural instincts in case a job worked out for me - that way they could train me to their liking. (Note from foster mom: next available class we will be signing up for). I am a jumper. I have cleared 6' privacy fences, and can easily jump over my foster mom's head. It's my favorite way to give kisses, and I haven't quite learned how to be gentle about it; 4 paws in the air is my favorite greeting!

Patience! I am really really smart and tend to learn things quickly, but I need some reminders when I get my zoomies. As I learn your home and routine I'll need patience and structure to help me out.

A really beefy kennel. I have destroyed two wire kennels trying to get to my foster mom. Currently I use a Ruffland style kennel. My mom has to help me in (aka I go full dead weight and she has to shuffle me in), but I settle down really quickly. Because I have so much energy and am pretty young, I can't quite be trusted not to grab mom's things when she isn't looking. I love to have a toy in my mouth when I greet people and sometimes I get confused and think that things like shoes, candles, and oven mitts are toys for me but they're actually mom's!

If you think you can give me all of the things above, here's what you'll get in return:

The most loyal snuggle buddy. I know I have a lot of energy but I also love snuggling on the couch. There's no such thing as being too close to you! I'll go everywhere with you, and I'll listen really well especially in crowded public settings!

A VERY human and dog friendly canine pal. I love people of all ages! One time mom took me to Fleet Farm the same day SANTA was visiting and I got to meet several children and guess what!? I didn't jump on any of them! I got lots of treats after that. I also live with two other dogs right now. Mom used to keep us separated a lot because we caused a ruckus when we played but lately we've been really chill. I don't always read other dogs' cues when I'm bugging them, but mom does a good job of referee-ing if we all play too hard.

A smart and eager-to-learn partner. My mom has taught me a lot of things like sit, drop it, wait, and heel really quickly! Whenever we are walking on a leash and mom stops, I make sure to sit right beside her! She loves it when I do that. I want to learn new things so I tend to pick them up really fast. Sometimes mom takes me places like Home Depot or Fleet Farm so we can work on listening to her when it's busy around us, and I do pretty well for not having much training at all!

If you'd like to meet me, my foster mom lives in Appleton. Reach out to my friends at the rescue and they can have your people contact my people. Can't wait to meet you and give you some kisses!
